New York City Wedding Photographer: Rebecca and Ethan

Last weekend I had the opportunity to work with Jayd Gardina, and second shoot Rebecca and Ethan's wedding at the Metropolitan Building in Long Island City. Can I even express how much I love this venue? It's a rustic-chic loft space with so much fabulous window light it makes my head spin.

Everyone at the ceremony had a great big laugh when the officiant dropped the ring just as it was about to be slid onto Becca's finger. The first three rows of the groom's side got to practice their easter egg hunting skills just in time for the holiday. Luckily the ring didn't fall into one of the cracks of the hardwood floors!

Congratulations, you two!

Asheville--beautiful even in the rain

I went to Asheville to visit two good friends last week, and while the weather wasn't quite what I was expecting (I left NY in sunny, mid-70's temps to rain and 4" of snow in NC), I still had a great time enjoying the sights on the side of their extraordinary mountain. Here's some of my favorite shots...

Photographers to be Inspired By

I learned about Anna Kuperberg and her work last year, and have been obsessed with it ever since. She is a San Francisco-based photographer, specializing in weddings, children, and dogs. Anna has a way of capturing each of her subjects and getting right to the heart of their personalities. I especially love the way she's able to do this with kids--even babies. Most of her images are up close and personal, and always on their level (literally). Her portraits give you a glimpse into their world, and an idea of what each of her subjects might be thinking about just then.

She notices the little things (the nape of a woman's neck when her hair is pulled up in an elegant twist, textures, patterns, shadows), and frames them in such a way as to be works of art all on their own.

Take a look at her awesome work to see what I mean!

10 Years

It's not all that often that I post things on my blog that are personally sentimental, but today is an important day, because today signals an entire 10 years since my mom passed away. I was a senior in highschool when, after a few years of fighting cancer, my mother lost the strength for the battle.

She was an amazing woman--strong, creative, musical, funny, a great writer--although, a lot of that I truly had yet to see since she passed before I was done being a horrible teenager who didn't care enough to learn. And that, I'll always regret.

This is a photograph of my mother and I when I was young. In our photo album, she had penned next to it, "My favorite picture of me and Jennifer".

Here's to living life to its fullest.

New York City Wedding Photographer: Laura and Bill

Thanks so much to Jen Davis for inviting me along to second shoot Bill and Laura's wedding! They are just most sweet and fun-loving couple in the world. Despite the wind and rain, Laura braved the day and came out looking just gorgeous. She knows a thing or two about how to handle these things, as she co-owns the fabulous wedding consulting and design team, My Bellissima. Their ceremony took place at the Holy Family Church in Florham, NJ, and their beautiful reception was held at The Venetian in Garfield, NJ.
